When customers have multiple subscriptions ending on different dates, billing gets messy fast. Nue's co-terming aligns those renewal dates so you get cleaner billing cycles, easier renewals, and happier teams on both sides. Your customers appreciate the simplicity, and your teams can actually plan around predictable renewal cycles.

The problem with scattered subscription dates

Picture an enterprise account that bought your core product in January, added users in April, and upgraded to premium features in September. Now you're managing three different renewal dates, sending invoices at random times, and your customer's finance team processes paperwork constantly.

  • Finance processes invoices every few months instead of once
  • Customers can't budget when bills arrive randomly
  • Sales negotiates renewals multiple times per year
  • Accounting spends hours reconciling partial periods
  • Customer success never knows when to do strategic reviews

Traditional billing systems weren't built for how modern subscriptions work. They force you to manage each purchase separately, even when it's the same customer buying more of your product.v

How Nue Handles Co-terming

Nue gives you five co-terming scenarios, each designed for specific business situations while keeping billing flexible and financially accurate.

Automatic mid-term alignment

When customers add new units to existing subscriptions, Nue automatically aligns the dates. Customer has 10 licenses expiring in December and adds 5 more in July? Those new licenses automatically co-term to December, with proration handling the partial period.

Strategic cross-sell co-terming

New product additions align with existing subscriptions. When customers expand their product suite, Nue makes sure all products share common renewal dates. This creates natural expansion conversations instead of scattered transaction touchpoints.

Flexible extension options

Sometimes alignment requires extending existing subscriptions. Nue handles extensions with full proration support - customers only pay for additional time received while achieving date consolidation.

Configuration Flexibility

Nue offers four co-term options that you can configure in Nue → System Settings based on your business needs:

  • Yes – Allows users to select whether to co-term and choose from available co-term options
  • Do Not Co-Term – Disables co-terming functionality
  • Always Co-Term (User-Selected Date) – Co-terming is enforced, users can manually choose the target date
  • Always Co-Term (Auto-Select Furthest End Date) – Automatically selects the latest subscription end date

When co-terming is enabled, users can initiate the process through Nue's Change Cart workflow, where co-term options appear in a popup interface during the subscription modification process.

What makes this valuable:
  • Single renewal conversations covering all customer services
  • Predictable budgeting with consolidated invoices
  • Finance processes fewer invoices with higher accuracy
  • Sales conducts comprehensive renewal discussions instead of piecemeal negotiations
  • Customer success plans strategic touchpoints more effectively

Co-terming turns vendor relationships from transactional to strategic.

Real-World Example: Marketing Technology Platform

Consider a fictional marketing automation customer that started with email marketing in January, added SMS in March, purchased analytics in June, and expanded with social media management in October. Previously, this created four renewal cycles with separate negotiations.

With Nue's co-terming, all services can align to a unified renewal date. Prorated charges handle partial periods fairly. Finance receives consolidated invoices. Sales conducts annual strategic planning sessions instead of quarterly transaction discussions.

Revenue becomes more predictable, customer satisfaction increases and operational costs decrease.

The benefits for your team

Finance teams process fewer invoices with cleaner transaction sets and improved accuracy. Reconciliation becomes straightforward instead of scattered across multiple partial periods.

Sales reps conduct comprehensive renewal discussions covering the entire customer relationship. No more quarterly negotiations over individual product renewals.

Customer success managers plan strategic touchpoints around unified renewal cycles. They know exactly when to have expansion conversations and strategic reviews.

Who Needs This?

If your business has:

  • Multi-product portfolios with different purchase timing
  • Enterprise accounts with complex subscription needs
  • Usage-based services with subscription components
  • Growth strategies focused on customer lifetime value

Co-terming becomes essential for managing complexity without losing revenue opportunities.
